Loyalty For a Million

Come over here, son
And sign your name
It's a multi-year contract
To fortune and fame

So you've never played a minute
Of professional ball
How about a million
For showing up at all?

There's no need to worry
It's all guaranteed
Have your lawyer look it over
In case you can't read

It's loaded with incentives
And clauses and options
If you're hurting for fans
You can always adopt some

The papers, they'll praise you
Before your first play
And then they will criticize
The rest of your days

So drop the long bomb
Or blow the slam dunk
And watch your career
Go from Franchise to Junk

But surpass expectations
Start quick from the gate
And you'll jump on the bandwagon
With, "Renegotiate!"

Just let's not forget
The one year you've spent
You owe us three more
And then you're a free agent

O, I admit and acknowledge
It's a minor detail
Why in your very first season
You swallowed the whale

But you're still just a kid
Nowhere near pension
Biting off too much
Gives one indigestion

So come over here, son
Sign on the line
Be a man to your contract
And things will be fine
