Well to be honest it all depends on what you want your new computer for. If you need a good computer for a relatively cheap price that you can only use in your home then i would advice buying a desktop computer. However in all other circumstances a laptop is a better choice because of its versatility in different environments.
A laptop is a very good choice if you plan on using it at work because it is light weight, compact, no extra keyboard need, no extra mouse needed and it is easy to bring home and do some extra work there. This eliminates the need for a memory stick or other memory storing device which can be easily lost.
The problem with desktops is that they are bulky, heavy and noisy. They also have a tendency to crash just before you were going to save all your work and to go on the internet you need all sorts of cables or an expensive wireless adapter connected to a router. New laptops have in built wireless internet capabilities which prevents all the hassle and expensive equipment needed to go on the internet.
I would also further suggest that you buy a mac if you are going to buy a laptop and for that matter if you are going to buy a desktop i would make sure its a mac. Mac's are the superior machine in most aspects when compared to Microsoft made computers. They are more powerful, better made, beautifully designed which is why Microsoft attempted to copy Mac with its new Microsoft Vista system.
To conclude, Laptops are lighter, more compact, less prone to crashes, better wireless internet capabilities, no external devices needed, and they are not much more expensive.
