I think we are asking the wrong question, it's why do people judge, PERIOD! You have to understand people judge simply because they are people and that is what people do. It has nothing to do with you being gay or lesbian. People will judge if you are rich, poor, black or white, people judge simply because every person on this planet is different. We come from different backgrounds, different beliefs, different parts of the world. It's funny that the issue of gay and lesbian arises because to everyone their issue is the biggest but you can ask the same thing to African Americans and racism, Islamics and their faith, the rich and their money, everyone feels the pressure of judgment, yet everyone judges. What we based our judgments on may provide a better understanding of how we look and respond to people, but for the most part they are narrowed down to a few things: environment, beliefs, and tradition most judgments I have found fall in these categories.
Now concerning the issue of gays and lesbians, I disagree that people are really judging them I would propose the idea that because the person may be gay or lesbian they recognize that type of judgment easier, its like when you buy a new car all of the sudden you see that car everywhere, whereas before you never really noticed its because your focused has changed and you are more in tuned to your surroundings because you see it has always been there. I believe we all do that at times. But sometimes I believe whether its sexual orientation, race or a monetary thing, people have self-imposed judgments, we do and say things that bring a negative outlook upon ourselves.
I find it foolish to ask the question why do people judge gay and lesbians when the fact of the matter is we all judge no matter what. We have to learn not all our opinions need to be spoken, not all of our contradictions need to be fought, not all of our disagreements are going to be solved, there is something I have realized about all people is this that we all want to be accepted and respected no matter what we claim to be, period. I believe if we look at things from this perspective we will see a better way to make a harmonious living with all people.
