Vacation! It is a word that has a multitude of meanings, depending on your perspective. But I think its safe to say that the one common expectation of a vacation is relaxation and rejuvenation. A time to forget your everyday tasks and responsibility's and return to your everyday life refreshed. If your idea of the ultimate vacation is the warm tropical breezes of the Caribbean you have choices to make. The majority of Caribbean travelers choose the "all inclusive" resort option as it delivers the most bang for your buck. These vacation charters operate during peak travel times which is most often December to May. Because this time frame coincides with winter in North America, Christmas and spring and Easter break the prices for travel during this time are higher than other times of the year.

The question remains is travel during the off season of June to December worth suffering the heat and humidity of summer in the Caribbean? From my personal perspective, nothing says vacation to me like the azure blue ocean bordered by crisp white sand, palm trees and coconuts, tropical drinks and Latin music and you have my idea of the ultimate vacation getaways. Prices during this less popular travel time drop by as much as seventy-five percent. Of course every traveler has to factor in the reasons why the cost is much lower. Threats of hurricanes and increased heat and humidity all play a deciding factor. Well planned off season travel can help to put those fears to rest. Make sure you understand completely your travel carriers policy on cancellation due to weather. Research what type of insurance coverage you require should the unthinkable hurricane arrive during your proposed travel time. All of this research should be done before you book. Keep a close eye on weather services. Hurricanes, unlike tornado's, do not just appear suddenly. There is always advanced warning of a pending hurricane.

Take into consideration the increased heat and humidity. Choose if possible a more updated resort so you have the best chances of properly working air conditioning. Increase the sun protection value in your sun screen to guard your skin against the strong rays of the Caribbean sun. Be prepared to spend more time in the water cooling off and maybe a bit less time sunbathing. Another advantage of off season travel is the tourist attractions in the area will be much less crowded, giving you and your family more room to explore without waiting in long lines.

Last minute pricing is an additional way to save even extra money on off season travel. Many on-line travel websites offer prices as low as five hundred dollars per person for vacation packages booked a week or two before the travel date. Those great prices are not a gimmick, but simply airline seats and packages that haven't sold and they would rather sell them at a deep discount rather than not at all. Its a great feeling to know that you payed possibly as much as seventy-five percent less than your fellow vacationer for exactly the same thing.

Despite the hurdles of off season travel, with some careful and well researched planning travel during this time to the Caribbean can be a very economical as well as enjoyable time to vacation. Being prepared for the weather both good and bad will make sure you have a hassle-free vacation. Give me a week's vacation and the cash to go, and this Caribbean traveler would venture to the sun anytime!
