There is nothing more beautiful or peaceful than watching a sunrise over the ocean. Your sitting out on the deck at 6 o'clock or thereabouts, it's quiet. You can see the orange tint as it slowly appears to rise from the ocean. Little by little it rises and your just awestruck, nothing else exists and then its over and you don't even realize how long it took, although once it starts, it happens fairly quickly. That in itself is a reason to vacation at the beach. I have to admit that I have vacationed in the mountains and it's beautiful. For me, the best time for a mountain trip is in the fall when the leaves are changing; let's face it, that can be a day trip.
I have never felt more at peace than I do when I'm standing on the sand looking out over the water. The sounds, that briny smell, the breeze, and yes even the seagulls. There is nothing, absolutely nothing that brings peace to my heart quicker than standing on the beach.
You stand there gazing out over that vast amount of water with awe, amazement, and respect. Why respect? Well think about the shear power of the ocean, the creatures that make the ocean their home, and natures wrath and how that can become destructive and deadly. But even with that, nothing can mar the beauty and tranquility.
Ok, the sand gets everywhere, but isn't that what showers are for? Sunburn, well don't forget the sunblock. When it rains, there's nothing to do. Are you kidding me? Just sit and watch the storm come across the ocean, it is breathtaking. Besides what better time for shopping?
For me, there is just no comparison. Being at the ocean calms me and for a brief period to time, nothing else matters. There is constant motion and sound. There is always beautiful scenery. Add in the cute shops and the food, man it's paradise.
I think the closest thing to heaven on earth would have to be a house by the ocean. As far as the mountains, well, when the hurricanes come, you'd need somewhere to escape to.
