Postpartum, or Post Natal Depression as it is also commonly known, is a frequently occuring problem among new mothers. This is particularly true for young mothers, such as Britney Spears.

Britney Spears is still very young to be the mother of two children. She has lead a life of show biz and had no chance to grow up the same way other young women grow up. Her every move is in the spot light, making every wrong move she makes far more publicized and criticized than the same actions by a non-famous person. This makes her issues far more difficult than other young mothers to cope.

Britney is also dealing with a failed relationship. One of the biggest causes of depression, postpartum or just depression in general, is often the break up of a relationship or the lack of support from a partner. Britney did not receive any of the support a mother needs after the birth of her children. Kevin Federline was not ready to handle the responsibility and left her to cope alone.

Perhaps Britney should not have had her children, but at the time it seemed like a dream come true. Married and a baby on the way. Her second child was possibly seen as a chance to strengthen the bond between her and her husband, however it only drove him further away. I have no doubt that Britney loves her children dearly, however depression has caused her to make some very irresponsible decisions.

We are far more critical of the mistakes of the famous than we are of people we know. Often we over look possible reasons for their problems and blame it on their character and their lifestyle. However, I do believe Britney Spears is suffering Postpartum depression. It is shown by her lack of coping after her marriage breakdown, the silly mistakes and irresponsible actions she has taken with her children, and her frequent partying and attempts to avoid leading the life of a typical mother. While we look upon her harshly for these actions, she is still a young mum like any other, who needs help and is suffering a breakdown.
