Women have been smarter than the men in this whole debate. Men have quite surprisingly and submissively surrendered to all claims that were made against them within this framework. The fact that the "man" was brought up by his mother who taught him to be tough, not to cry and hang in there has been a way to get whatever women want out of men. Much of what is perceived as "favor" towards men is rather superficial - like "the clerk talking to the man while doing the deal" or "credit card companies targeting the male rather than the female to get new customers". Both of these are real, but stem from hard wired behavior - the clerk is often a woman anyway as is the manager making the decision to send out the credit card application.
On a deeper level, as in other articles for the "no" side I raise the issue of parenting and split families. Let's look at the statistics on custody of the kids after divorce proceedings - its overwhelmingly in favor of women to the point that just looking at the statistics one encounters an "abnormal" skew towards favoring woman - based on what, I ask?!
I am not an advocate for having fewer rights for women, but I certainly say the two sexes are quite different; And I'm not referring here to the bleeding obvious either! The fact that they are different biologically, physiologically and psychologically should make it obvious, even to blind Freddie, that trying to do everything as if they were the same or equal is inevitably bound to favor one over the other. Since women are the ones constantly claiming to be discriminated against the result is a system now favoring them.
Why is it that women seem to have more rights when it comes to health issues than men. Look at access to drugs for cancers. There are a number of options for men in relation to prostate cancer, but I know of no national health scheme that subsides them. On the other hand, there is no shortage of campaigns and subsidies of all sorts for breast cancer. Is one cancer better than another?
I certainly do not think society favors men over women; individuals might, but society certainly does not, if anything there is probably an imbalance favoring women...
