I feel kind of dirty even writing about Paris Hilton, let alone arguing for why she should receive one million dollars to tell her story to NBC, but the reason is simple; this is America, and in America anyone can make money off of fabricated celebrity. It's becoming one of the fastest growing professions.
Seriously, NBC is willing to pay that amount because they know it will be worth it. The Paris interview, or expose, or whatever they'll call it, will rake in tons of cash for the network due to society's dribbling obsession with the celebutante. Don't get me wrong, I don't think NBC should be paying anything for Paris' story-I think that she needs to go away never to be heard from again except for in a VH1 where are they now? dirty sex kittens edition. But, Paris is not going away, the public and the networks won't let her.
So what's a girl to do? Tell her story for free? No way. She lived that hard life- she spent those 22 days in jail not anyone else-and she deserves to reap the benefits. Seriously, if NBC is willing to pay, and people are willing to watch, then yes Paris should get paid.
To everyone who disagrees, all I can say is stop watching Paris, stop talking Paris, and stop writing about Paris, and maybe she will go away. But in a country where Larry King drop Michael Moore for Paris Hilton it is clear the dress-less heiress is here to stay. And doesn't she deserve to get paid just like everyone else?
