The history of nursing

Nursing is considered as a commendable profession that is responsible in providing care as well as attention to the intended group of people called patients. How did such a profession came about? Well, it all began in the pre-modern era, when nuns volunteered themselves to take care of injured soldiers during war. There were not called nurses then, but "sisters". Well, it is evidential that this profession was evolved from a religion root when these people being influenced by their religious teaching offered their help to tend to injured soldiers during war period.

Although, country like United State of America had been trying recruit nurses to be on board of their navy ship, this profession was not officially regulated. It was New Zealand that initiated in this regulation of nurses. An act was passed legislatively in Newzealand in 12th September 1901 known as the Nurses Registration Act. While United State followed on with a legal effort of nursing licenses later on in 1903.

The profession of nurses have evolved greatly and have somewhat moved away from its religious root. However, there are many countries, especially in Asia region that remain some of these root by retaining a senior nurses as 'sister'.

While having some evidence of keeping their religious root, it has detached itself from its roots in terms of standard practices. Nowadays, nurses have been seen to move to a variation of sectors, although still within the scope of health care, it is not limited to just attending and providing care to patients. Some of these trained nurses are taking on a more technical role like controlling apparatus like x-ray machines or other relevant devices.

It is discern as an increasing trend that there are lesser people who would like to take on such a remarkable career. In order to fill in the manpower shortage, there are many countries in the world are importing nursing talents from Philippines. In Philippines, nursing is considered as a professional qualification as compared to most countries that subject nursing as a vocational qualification equivalence.
