Managing and dealing with food allergies is not as complicated as most people assume. With today's science and technological advancements people suffering from most food allergies have a variety of alternatives to choose from. For example, people who suffer from wheat and gluten allergies will find that there are a great number of products that are made using rice and potato derivatives as substitutes in place of regular processed white flour. For those who experience lactose intolerance soy is the perfect option. There are also other non-dairy substitutes such as rice, almond, and goat milk, which can aid as a substitute in the place of regular cow milk.
In an effort to help assist individuals with food allergies and intolerances most grocery stores and markets now have an aisle or section of the store that is allotted for specialty foods such as the ones that are mentioned above. There are also many brands now that only cater to people with food allergies and intolerances making it easier for people with allergies and intolerances to sort through products easily and quicker when shopping. Also make sure to read the ingredient label on everything that you purchase. Many foods contain some ingredients that you may be allergic to although they may appear as though they wouldn't. Another note to take is that many foods are processed on machinery that may at the same time be used to process a food that you are allergic to; these warnings can also be found on the ingredient label.
For those who enjoy dinning out try not to order items which consist of creams, sauces, or stuffing. Usually these items contain at least one if not many of the most common food allergens or irritants. This is especially true for those who suffer from nut allergies. Try not to order dishes that you aren't completely sure about and don't be afraid to ask your server questions even if he or she has to ask the chef or cook what ingredients the food is made of; remember your health is at risk.
Keep yourself updated on new and changing food specialties. Often time's scientists have discovered a new approach to preparing and making foods, which you once could not eat. Most importantly if you find that you're still having a difficult time coping with food intolerances and allergies don't try to fix the problem on your own. See your doctor or nutritionist so they can help you come up with new ideas and ways to cope.
