If They Could Only See
She is a scared and lonely child
that grew up too fast, and never had a chance
to see the beauty of the world around her.
She is a soft, gentle, downy pillow
filled with fragile egg-shells afraid
to be broken at every twist, every turn.
She trusts no one, for she has felt
the hurt and pain of others, and
often takes it as her own.
She must stay strong, hidden in her disguise
for those who will never know the sorrow
that follows, and demeans her every move in life.
Many times she thinks of the old ones, and
wonders if they will welcome her to
the realness, of the past and forgotten.
A place she will feel at home and at peace.
