A Hero.
One who walks out the door, possibly for the last time. When danger approaches this special one, they don't even stop to think about the outcome. This angel of mercy becomes narrowly focused on the job or mission and never entertains the thought of backing down. Does fear come over our heroic one? You bet it does. But strange as it may seem, fear is what drives this one even harder.
So how do you know if you have this gift? Well, let's test you and see.
1:00am and you are awakened from a deep sleep. You think you hear screaming outside but are not for sure. You put on your bathrobe and run outside and notice the neighbors house is ablaze. You can hear yelling and screaming inside but the smoke is so strong you can't make out where the door is. After clawing and feeling your way along the hot siding that is now melting on the front of the house, you realize that the skin has been burned off your fingertips. However, you don't stop. You now have kicked in the door and find yourself inside the front room which is enveloped in flames and smoke. The heat is so intense you can smell your arm hairs burning. However, you don't stop. You know the extreme pain in your feet is from your house shoes melted to the bottoms of your heels and arches. You don't look down because you fear what your going to see so you stay focused on your personal mission. As you are exiting the burning structure with two of the three family members, it has become evident to you that you will have to return for the third. Your body now is black and miserably burned. Every part aches, but the inner you says, "were not done yet". After bringing out the last victim, you collapse. You left your comfortable bed and loving family. As you ran out that door, who knew it would be your last.
How did you do? Is this who you are or would you call 911 and wait hoping for the best? I guess you won't know until the test becomes reality.
