To choose between desktop and laptop is really depend on each individual need. Let me describe here what merit and demerit of desktop and laptop so you can choose yourself which one suit you best.
Merit of desktop:
1. Cheaper
2. With bigger screen and keyboard
3. Easily add on more hardware when necessary, example, when your desktop is running too slow you can add on memory, when you have no space to store your data you can add on hard-disk, etc
4. I always feel desktop is faster than laptop
Demerit of desktop:
1. Bulky, so cannot move here and there easily
Merit of laptop:
1. Compact in size so can move here and there easily
Demerit of laptop:
1. More expensive
2. Quite costly and difficult to find compatible peripheral to add on at later stage
3. The screen is small, not comfortable for playing games.
