So many people are deceived by the idea that summer vacation means going away. Although getting away is always nice, it isn't always affordable. Instead of planning to go far, stay where you are. Do some research and learn about activities right in you hometown. Most people take for granted the things that they have in their own backyard so to speak.
To begin find out what's going on in your neighborhood. Parks often times have a list of activities for kids over the summer. For example, one park in our area has planned a day to teach kids to fish. Many times these activities are free. If you ever have to pay for the activities, chances are the prices will be cheap.
If you are not into that sort of thing, then plan you own outings. Set days to go out to the park for a picnic. Get you kids' friends together and start up a baseball team (or any other kind of team). Go to the pool or the beach. Be sure to change things up. Try out something new that your family has never done before. For people who live in the city, be a tourist in your own town. Visit places you've always wanted to visit. Kids will never admit it but there are some interesting museums out there. Just recently I went to the Bodies Museum in Manhattan with some friends, it was a unique experience.
Of course, should you choose to go away this summer, it does not have to be very long. You'd be surprised at how much one family can accomplish over the course of a day or two. The first step is having everything planned out before time. Things like what time you plan on leaving. Having everything ready the day before also lets the day go by sooner. A family meeting can help in these regards that way everyone knows what is going on and can have an input.
Whatever it is that you plan on doing this summer the most important thing is that you have fun while spending time with your family.
