Having grown up in the west, and spent much time in the mountains of Utah and the Sierra Mountains of California, I must choose the mountains. The nice thing about the mountains is that you have warm temperatures during the day and cooler temperates at night.
The best of both worlds can be found in the mountains. You can ride your seadoo during the day and roast marshmallows by night. The hiking, the views and the surrounding of wildlife also makes the mountains a unique vacationing spot.
We can always stay in a beach front hotel and experience the accommodations of room service, bellman and wakeup calls. However, in the mountains, you can sleep in a trailer, a tent or even as I've done in the past you can lay out a sleeping bag and sleep beneath the stars with the wood fire yards away.
Comparing apples to oranges is not always easy, but in this case the mountains bring so much more those who want to experience nature. When you can cook on a grill and cast iron pans outside, the food just tastes better. There is also a feeling of accomplishment when you can prove to yourself that living in the wilderness is still possible in the 21st century. Choose the mountains, you will find peace in the forests of America and you won't have the distractions of other people vying for their spot on the beach.
