Ever notice that people always have different views on soap opera characters? I am an avid fan of the "The Young and the Restless" site on Soaps.com. I love to go to the "comments" section and read what all the fans have to say about the fictional people on the soap. So many different opinions and so many reasons why. Yet everyone has a good point as to why they like or dislike the characters. Not the actors mind you, the characters. I had been taught all my life that only housewives with no lives watched soaps. I don't think that's true. I watch because, even if it's only for one hour each day, I get to escape the concerns of my own life, and watch other people go through troubles and temptations, and struggle with their lives. It reminds me that I'm not alone. And it gives me somewhere to release all the frustrations that I know it wouldn't be right to release on real people. It's so easy to focus anger and hatred on someone who is only fictional. And I don't feel guilty afterwords, because I haven't hurt feelings of any "real" people. It's also fun and sometimes educational to see all the other opinions of the same characters. It's always good to keep other feelings and viewpoints in consideration. Sometimes you learn to see things very differently and sometimes, you really get reminded that every story has 2 sides to it. Sometimes it also helps see situations in your own life differently. Everything has it's good points, sometimes, you just have to look for them!
