My response to this loaded question is what society are we referring too? Third world societies or America society? This is a severely loaded question. In the third world I would agree that men are favored. In many third world countries men are the dominant sex and dominant voice. Hispanic language still refers to women and men in different regards. ( the whole O and A reference, Senor VS. Senorita) In the 21st century when you still read about oppressive cultures such as Islam and stories about female genitalia mutilations I would agree that THEIR societies do in fact favor the male gender. Ever since the beginning of time, women were considered Unequal to men, they were subservient and considered BENEATH men, however, in the 21st century of modernization and globalization women have earned many of the social, economical, and political statuses that men have and hold. Though, all these advantages are most enjoyed in First World countries such as America that are not only economically, socially and politically developed but also technologically advanced and modernized states of the world. On the other hand women of Third World Countries may not be as privileged and may lack basic social, economical and political rights, varying from country to country depending upon the social and religious culture of these countries.

I feel another very important issue here is affirmative action and equal opportunity, a person who is most qualified for the job should be hired, regardless if they are white,black, Hispanic, male or female. But that rarely happens. Equal opportunity steps in and forces employers to hire under qualified minorities because they are minorities. Affirmative action is failing and failing miserably. That is an ongoing trend in America. You have a distinct advantage if your a minority. I worked for a well known Florida State Agency for several years. A well known "joke" among officers was that if you were a Black or Hispanic female lesbian , you had all the appropriate bases/ minorities covered and would advance quickly. That "joke" was right on the mark. 3 minority categories covered your butt and you had ammunition to cry foul if you were ever terminated. How sad. I feel that American society FAVORS minorities, in many professions females are are paid just as well as males. Law Enforcement, corrections, fire fighters, attorneys, postal workers. However, there are exceptions to this in some male dominated fields. Welding, auto mechanics, etc. I think it shall be very interesting to see how equality between male and female, minorities and non minorities is in 25 years. Especially since Caucasian males are quickly becoming a minority in America.
