MY DOG
My dog turned around to me today,
As if he had something important to say.
His eyes were glazed and full of sorrow,
A pleading that glowed from this moment to the morrow.
My dog looked at me and began to say,
" I'm sorry but things are not going my way,
I really think I could do with a walk,
Both time together and time to talk."
My dog got his lead from the stand today,
Placed it on the floor and looked my way.
" A walk I think, would be really nice,
We really need to break the ice."
My dog led me out of the door and the house,
Took me to the river and started to pounce.
He jumped very high and scampered around,
Showing me the glee that he felt on the ground.
My dog turned to me and said, " Can't you see?
" The fun we can have, both you and me?"
I turned to answer and just agree,
But he snatched the ball, and ran away from me.
My dog shook his head at me today,
Saying things were now going all his way.
He turned and said, " This is how it should be,
I need these walks, more than you, but for me."
My dog jumped up, his face a smile,
" Do you see, do you see we could both go a mile.
A simple walk, but what fun we can make,
A little push from me, and we go to the lake!"
My dog carried on, and talked to me,
Speaking of things that we could see.
He said " Look at this, it looks very nice!"
As he jumped in the river, and broke the ice.
My dog turned, and I saw all the glee,
That flowed from within, and surrounded me.
We had a good walk, as all dog's need,
But the cold seemed to slightly impede his speed.
My dog said to me, " That was oh, so nice,
But the cold was too much as cold as ice!"
I answered as I thought was best,
A warming cuddle, close to my chest.
My dog said to me, " I am so cold,
My skin feels that it is chilled to the bone!"
So I reached down and took him into my arms,
Rubbing him dry, saying "You are my child!"
My dog said to me, " I really love you."
And I know these feelings are so very, very true.
For when I look down at this hairy ball of fluff,
I know that my feelings will never be enough.

While I was blissfully napping,
From outside came a horrible yapping.
