Mouth wash: Alcohol free option

For some people the burning sensation that comes with classic alcohol containing mouthwashes is an indicator that the mouthwash is hard at work killing germs and freshening breath. What some people don't realize is that there is a growing selection of alcohol free mouthwashes that work just as well without the tingling or the burning. It could be said that the once popular Listerine commercials prodding you on to 'make it' through the 30 seconds of burning no longer apply.

Alcohol free versions of mouthwashes come in a variety of flavors and contain many of the same active ingredients as their alcohol containing counterparts. Companies such as Biotene, Crest, and Reach now make alcohol free versions of mouthwashes. Companies like Listerine are sticking to alcohol versions although they are offering some versions that have less 'burn' then the original versions.

Overall alcohol free versions do the same job as alcohol containing mouthwashes, although some may argue that the alcohol versions still kill more germs because of the added power of alcohol.
