It is possible that some still consider this to be a 'man's world' but if one gives society a good, hard look they'll find that it hasn't been that way for quite a while.

Imagine an instance where a man an woman, both equally qualified, arrive at a company to apply and interview for a position. Each of them can do the job just as well as the other and both have good backgrounds in that field but their gender sets a wide gap between them. If the woman were hired over the man no questions would be asked. If the man accused the company of being sexist because they hired a woman over a man many would laugh. However, if the man were hired and the woman that interviewed accused the company of the same degree of sexism many more problems would arise. It isn't necessarily because it is true but because history has shown a trend of treating women unfairly and thousands of lawsuits have been drawn up because of instances just as that. Nowadays, women are sometimes considered more desirable than men because hiring a woman for a position instead of a man is a way of proclaiming 'Hey! We don't discriminate'.

Companies and businesses that promote their goods are also looking through the eyes of women more often than men. You can walk into a shopping center and see an all women's clothing store sooner than all men's store. If you look through the shaving section at a department store you'll see dozens of items that make it easy and painless for a woman to shave her legs yet men must still fight with razor burn and stinging aftershave. Everyday you see commercials promoting the beauty and radiance of a woman's body yet it isn't so often that you see a commercial glorifying the male form. Odds are that you'll walk into a club during Ladies' Night but it's very unlikely that Wednesday evening is 'Men's Night'.

Why? Because no business wants to fight against a woman. Women can bring up years of working at dead-end jobs just to make ends meet, carrying their babies on their backs because they can't afford (or just don't want) a babysitter, slaving hours over a stove, and doing it all without the aid of a man. Women can talk about their mothers and grandmothers maching as rights activists, wishing their generation didn't have to go through the same thing, and hoping society changes soon so their little girls don't have to suffer as well. Women can mention that job interview only weeks ago where they were passed over because the company thought a man would be better. People applaud them and shun anyone who thinks even once about hindering their majestic sashay through life. Listen to a man make the same argument. It should be easy for them, people think, because he's a man.

But that's far from the truth. It is because he is a man that makes it so very hard.
