Society as a whole, does not favor men. That isn't to say that there aren't individuals who favor men... who belittle or antagonize women and consider them inferior. To pin this attitude on society as a whole isn't fair. This nation, and mankind in general has come a long way in equalizing opportunities that exist for women, as well as improving the overall attitude about what women have to offer.
To really analyze this question, one must consider the motivations and goals of the woman in question. Let's say, for example, a woman wants to get ahead in the business world. Does society say that she shouldn't be a business woman? No. Will she run in to individuals that say she shouldn't be a business woman? Possibly, and this might discourage or dissuade her from pursuing her goals further. But, if she were to push through and continue her efforts, could she be successful regardless of the attitudes of a close-minded individual? Absolutely. It isn't society though... we've come too far.
Some may say that across the board, there are more men that are successful professionals than there are women. But does this lead one to believe that society favors men? What about the countless women who have every ability to be a working professional and to be good at it, but choose instead to stay at home and raise a family? Just because opportunity isn't always taken doesn't mean that opportunity isn't there.
