"Best Gifts for Nurses"
The best gift a nurse can receive, is the ability to discharge their patients from the hospital. Knowing that whatever brought the patient to the hospital, in the first place, has now healed, been controlled or cured. The loving smile and appreciation shown through that smile, is the best gift of all.
While sometimes, the simple, loving smile is not enough, in the eye's of the patient. I have seen many material gifts given over the years. Such as candy, flowers, stethoscope cozies, (cute material wrapped around the stethoscope to keep it warm, while hanging around the nurses neck.) Angel Pins, Nurse Pins for their lab coats or Scrub top, Syringe style pens, coffee mugs (with the word nurse, angels, and even poems on them.) A perfectly colored picture, from a child. A photo of the new baby, the nurse helped bring into the world.
If a patient has a chronic illness, like cancer, it's likely the nurse will spend a lot of time with the patient, as they may spend long periods of time in the hospital or come and go frequently. It takes a very special nurse to care for cancer patients. If you spend enough time with them, they become part of your extended family. The patient will also have the opportunity to get to know the nurse, her/his likes and dislikes. Then selecting a gift is easy, it's like buying something for your aunt or uncle.
While there is no right or wrong gift for a nurse. She/He will graciously accept whatever you give them. Part of being a nurse is "accepting" as well as giving.
"GENERAL GIFTS"
- A nice thank you written up in the local newspaper.
- A gift card of any kind. Don't forget about the uniform shops.
- Anything handmade, crafts or baked goods.
- A tote bag to carry their "stuff" in, almost every nurse carries a tote bag.
- A coffee or tea gift set.
- A bath set (bubble bath, inflatable pillow, bath salts, scrubby, lotion)
"THEMED GIFTS"
- Anything with the word NURSE on it. (coffee mug, travel mug, picture, framed poem.)
- A watch with a second hand (for taking pulses.)
- Anything with a angel, (as people seem to identify nurses with angels.)
- A plaque or small trophy (that says "World's Greatest Nurse" these are fairly inexpensive and you can have the nurses name engraved on it.) It's a unique gift.
These are just a few basic gift idea's. The most important thing to remember is that you have already, given your nurse the best gift she could receive that's your renewed health and well being. A job well done on her part.
