Absolutely not. The FDA has had vitamins, herbal supplements in their crosshairs for many years. This is just part of a larger global conspiracy to eliminate alternative health supplements (Europe already has put severe restrictions on vitamin sales). If the US follows, the rest of North America will follow in short time.

Putting severe restrictions on vitamin sales (such as making them sellable only by prescription) will catapault the price into the stratosphere. The beauty of them now is their easy access and modest price. Imagine having to prove to a doctor that you need them...and then easily paying five times (or more) of the regular price to get them. And then not being able to get all of them because the FDA says some of these supplements may have harmful side effects. Meanwhile, countless FDA-approved drugs have easily killed millions through their side effects...Just look at the myriad of lawyer ads seeking out the victims of many FDA-approved drugs and treatments.

In a world where the food, air, water and general environment is so contaminated, and the food is so overprocessed, taking away these supplements which could easily extend human life is tantamount to causing a decline in the mean life span of humans. Look at the decline of male sperm counts in the West over the past fifty years. Cancer. heart disease, diabetes, andmorbid obesity are running rampant in our society. If there weren't these alternative health methods, death rates from these diseases could potentially cripple our society. Even the modest amounts of nutrients most people take (and ensuing health regimens) have helped keep these death rates in check.

For those taking larger amounts of nutrients, have probably caused a steep decline in death rates. Take one nutrient: reishi, herbal mushroom extract. It has been found to greatly stimulate immuno-responses leading to a slowdown in cancer growths (at the very least-remission and complete recovery in others). Admittedly, there are better cancer treatments coming out all of the time, some interstingly enough based on immune stimulation. There is also a growing recognition in the medical and scientific communities of the efficacy of these herbs in treating cancer.

The FDA is on the right approach in understanding these nutrients, but, ultimately, on the wrong track in controlling them. Until there are much better treatments, and the mean survival time and quality of life dramatically improves with those suffering from terminal cancer, cancer patients, and everybody else, should have the right to choose and buy without government control their favorite herbs and vitamins. Controlling vitamins and herbs could be the tip of the iceberg. Such controls could extend to health clubs, excersise equipment, organic foods and waters, anything where a health claim is attached.

For people who have terminal cancer, they have been able to live much longer and healthier lives, instead of being greatly debilitated, intense, mind-numbing pain and emaciation in others. Look at the FDA-approved chemotherapy: a drug that greatly weakens or destroys the immune system, as well as destroying red blood cells, and other healthy cells.

I rest my case...
