Product reviews: Flonase

Created on: July 02, 2007

A miracle nasal spray that works directly on nasal passages helps reduce the symptoms of nasal allergies and other seasonal allergies. It is also used for Asthma. Flonase is available by prescription only and is a Corticosteroid. It should be used as prescribed. Using less may be ineffective and using more makes side effects more likely. The usual prescribed dose is one squirt in each nostril, twice a day, but occasionally 2 squirts are ordered. It may take several days for the maximum effect to be obtained. Doses are measured and each cannister is good for 120 sprays. After 120 sprays, bottle should be thrown away because the residue is not an adequate dose. It comes with handy instruction literature and the cannister is small and fits neatly in a purse, pocket, or is easy to carry.

Side effects or potential problems: Corticosteroid allergy, pregnancy, do not use for those under 4 years of age. Possible side effects also include, cough, nausea, vomiting, nosebleed, headache, dizziness, stomach ache. Always tell the physician all meds that you are on, including vitamins and supplements. It is important that he know if you are on oral or other corticosteroids. If you have a viral, fungal or bacterial infection, notify the physician. The medication may make it more difficult to fight this.

According to RX List, an internet listing, more than 3,300 patients with seasonal allergies, and seasonal rhinitis, less than 2% of clinical trial patients discontinued because of adverse effects. These results were very similar to the placebo group.

Many people have responded favorably to this. It is important to remember that it is a treatment and not a cure.

Fluticasone Propionate also comes in a syrup and tablet. There is a cream for Psoriasis and allergies. The most widely used for seasonal allergies is the spray.
