Is this a rhetorical question? It's sad that in this day and age, this issue needs to be debated. Should we go back to the 1950s, when women stayed at home while the men 'brought home the bacon?' Or how about the 80s, when women were paid drastically less than men in the same field? Even today, women holding the same jobs as men receive lower pay than their male counterparts, sometimes as much as 20% less. It's the 21st century, people. Wake up.
Equality of the sexes is an important topic, one that must include equal pay for equal work, no matter what your gender is. Women who do the same work as men, who accomplish their assigned tasks as well as men, and put in as much effort as men, should receive the same exact pay for their time.
Now, this doesn't mean that women should receive the same pay no matter what they do. If the men are genuinely working harder or doing a better job, of course they should be paid higher. However, the same should apply to women- if the women are working harder, they should get the higher pay.
In short, pay should be a direct result of how much work is done, regardless of gender, race, age, and every other little label that's used to discriminate. Whether you are a man or a woman, you should be entitled to the same standards of payment. Companies in the United States, and all over the earth, should be required to provide equal pay to women and men. This is not a political issue; it is a human rights, and women's rights, issue.
