I have made a mistake by clicking "YES" instead of "NO". I guess once you vote you can't fix it. But NO, I am against government controlling radio or any other mean of communication. It is called freedom of the press and freedom of speech which includes the airwaves. The first amendment should end up the debate here and I should go about writing about something else. But I find it interesting trying to explain why is it that there is no balance in am radio talk show. As you know it is a show and is not about reporting the news only. It is commenting the news according to the host point of view. And as such it is the market that controls who is going to be in the air.
Radio stations owners are there for business and companies that advertise there pay according to how many listeners are there. If there aren't that many listeners, companies are not going to advertise there. So in order to attract listeners you have to present a good product. In other words, radio is there to present points of view that make sense because the listeners are in the majority of cases educated folks looking for common sense which is a good product. Most am radio listeners are conservative in nature. Liberals don't tune in because it is not in their nature to think too much. Liberals are not analytical in nature but emotional and driven more by feelings than by rational thinking. However, some of them listen in order to call and try to throw hateful speech against anything or anyone that represent conservatism. But you won't find liberals trying to find some commentaries bout something with substance to exercise his or her intellectual curiosity. No, they are listening to FM radio only or something that can stir up their emotions.
Conservative radio talk show is not about the republican party. This is many liberals confusion and some republicans also about the difference of conservatism and republicanism. Well, republicanism is not really an "ism". Conservatism is an ideology that include government, economics, culture and other things that pertain to living the right way. Conservatism has chosen the republican party to implement that ideology. Liberals has an ideology too but is not an ideology in which you have to think too much, is just about Big Government providing for people all kind of goodies and their chosen vehicle has been the democratic party.
Conservatism is about "laiser fare" or allowing people to develop their talents and God's given abilities. Conservatism believe that
