(This debate needs a counter.)
Poetry is not a thing. It is an abstract concept, an attempt to group works together in a taxonomical way. Such groupings are meaningless.
Poems are individuals and have lives of their own. They live in the heads of readers. They do not assemble as a group because they are beyond coporeal comparisons.
The poetic will always be of use. Writing that draws a vivid emotion or image from its reader with a few words will always be of great use to artists and dictators, to philosophers and salesmen.
Poetry, as a thing in and of itself? Such a wall is unecessary.
