Tips for family summer fun

Created on: July 01, 2007

Summer is the time of year that children anticipate and parents become increasingly anxious. It's a time for endless sunny days and family fun. Most parents will find themselves digging deep into their pockets in hopes of bringing about those perfect fun filled days. They will squeeze every minute into an agenda that would wear out the busiest politician. This will lead to over tired children at days end and parents with no patience. These are not what memories are made of. With just a little imagination and simplicity a summer full of great family fun can be achieved.

The community is full of free museums. Everything from art to history. Children can learn about new cultures or how the past evolved to the future. You can pack a picnic lunch and on the way back stop by your local park. Throw a blanket down under a big shady tree and gaze up at the sky. You can take turns trying to see what shape the puffy white clouds take on. Bring a bat and ball. Have a family baseball game. Another great idea is to spend time collecting insects or flowers and searching for the information of that species. Keep a journal and talk about what you've learned. Hiking is a great way to connect with your family. You can do research on trails fit for your child's age group. Keep it simple and not too long. Then you can all decide as a family where your next adventure will take you. Backpacks from the school year can be used for these hikes. This will save you money. Everyone will carry their own snacks, lunches, and other necessary items needed. Not only is this great bonding for the family but again it has educational value.

Put away the game boys and ipods for a portion of the day. Show your family what surrounds them in the big world they live in. You don't have to break the bank or run yourself ragged from exhaustion. Remember less is more. These will be the memories your children take with them into adulthood. With a little planning and creative ideas you can have a summer full of fun and activities.
