I had an experience with a street person one time.I was going to the grocery, when I saw this poor pitiful man,he was dirty and he was holding a sign"will work for food."I thought real quick,I need some furniture moved around and my husband couldn't do it alone. So I probably did the craziest thing,I had ever done.I picked him up and took him home.I was only feeling so sorry for him I couldn't stand it.My husband thought I had lost my mind, but I had plenty of food and wanted this man to eat.As the day went on we kind of looked at the homeless man like a science project,I had never had a first hand look into the world he lived and starved in.I fixed him a great meal and he helped my husband do some things around the house. Then I noticed his little suitcase he brought in.It was ragged and small, but Mr. homeless kept going back to it,like it was gold.I got curious and started watching him.I caught him taking a bottle of whiskey out and taking a big swigg.I figured, well if I was homeless I guess I would need something to cope with it.As the day went on he got really drunk, and told my husband and I he had family in the next town over, and they had thrown him out for drinking too much. This made me so angry,he had family and probably everything he needed across town, but chose to live like this, because of drinking.I asked him to leave, and he didn't argue,he just got up and left.I felt like I had been scammed.I don't know what events led up to this man's lifestyle but I felt he wouldn't be in it if he had made better choices. Now I have a hard time with feeling sorry for homeless people.
