Poetry: Life's journey

I fear the viper as he nears my path
As birds steadily sing a song of frail annoyance
I see the viper
I hear the viper slither across the grass
All my emotions are presently, instantly spent
He smells my fear,
His natural instinct tells him to attack
I slowly walk backwards with my knees buckled and bent
The viper quickly moves in and out,
Strikes my leg, then I crawl
With my back up to a tree I sit there sprawled
I saw an angel I think,
A light and color
I wanted so much to see my father
And though I confess I never was bitten by that snake
The fear I have of anything but God is my mistake
People in this world can sense your weaknesses as they wake
A good many people give but more people will always take
So my friend you have to decide the choices you make
And please, please avoid the path of the viper
And don't ever fear the snake
