Christianity's perspective on homosexuality is, contrary to popular belief, anything but black and white. More and more as people are coming into daily contact with people who identify as gay or lesbian, their values and commonsensical ideas are being challenged. Not everyone one who reads the Bible comes to the same honest conclusion about God's views on homosexuality.
Evidence of homosexuality as a sin:
Many who take on this viewpoint cite Leviticus 18:22 which states, "You shall not lie with male as with woman; it is an abomination." and Leviticus 20:13 "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them."
Another popular reference is to the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19. In this reading, two angels disguised as humans enter into the town of Sodom seeking hospitality. God has agreed to spare the sinful town destruction if but 5 of the inhabitants are pure. Lot takes the two angels in. Later that night, and angry mob of men from the village stand at Lot's house demanding he allow them to "know" the men he is housing there (rape them). Despite being offered Lot's two virgin daughters, the mod is not appeased. As a result of their wickedness, God destroys the town but saves the lives of Lot and his daughters for their goodness.
Judges 19 tells of a similar story where the men of a village attempt to rape a man receiving hospitality there.
Romans 1:26 "For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error."
1 Corinthians 6:9 "Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, 10thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers-none of these will inherit the kingdom of God." In some English translations today, the word "homosexual" replaces the term "male prostitutes".
What the Bible does suggest about homosexuality is overwhelmingly negative, even if not explicit. We should consider it a sin.
Evidence that homosexuality is not a sin, or that the Bible is unclear:
Refuting of the above evidence:
Leviticus also contains constraints upon diet and hygiene which most people to not hold themselves
