I've seen "Surf's Up" twice now, and can easily say it is one of the cutest and funniest family films I've seen this year. (And I think I've seen them pretty much every Kids/Family film from 07')
Filmed and told in documentary style, the penguin known as Cody Maverick is the star of it, and he steals the show. Voiced by young upcoming actor, Shia Lebouef, he is determined to become a great surfer. Big Z, brought to life perfectly and couldn't have more better cast, by Jeff Bridges, is the big surfer star that Cody met once. He made Cody believe he could do anything.
Other actors working in this cute story about a young penguin chasing his dream are Jon Heder(does a great chicken), and James Woods.
It makes you want to go to the beach and try to catch a wave. It's a bit inspirational at the same time it's cute and funny in the way we learn about the life of not only the dreamer but the winner. Who's to say who the winner really is? Go see the move to find out. It's a perfect film for your entire family, and on top of a great storyline, it has a great soundtrack.
