Laughter and love are the closest thing to God we will find here on the earth. God has a major sense of humor. I know because I've 'heard' Him laugh. I've actually heard him laugh several times, but for an example, I will tell you my turkey story.
It was the worst of times, it was the best of times. My husband was in a major accident, crushing his foot among other things, spent 11 days in the hospital and a year recovering enough to go back to work. Even though I have a lot of faith, I certainly wasn't laughing at the beginning of this experience. The accident happened in June. I was in college and thought for sure I would have to quit, get a job and take care of the family. I didn't, but we'll save that story for another article.
Anyway, it was approaching Christmas and we had nothing. My husband did eventually get some long-term disability pay, but we had lots of bills and no income. We didn't know what we would do, so we prayed and asked the Lord to provide. One day someone left a (frozen) turkey on our doorstep. We had two in our freezer from previous sales (my husband likes to buy cheap meat), so we gave it away to someone else who needed it more. Then two turkeys showed up, with boxes of groceries! Again, we gave away the turkeys to people who needed it more. You guessed it: 4 turkeys! I was worried about giving them away, but I did and we got 8 more turkeys! I was standing at the sink washing dishes and trying to figure out what to do with all these turkeys and praying, when I 'heard' God giggle! Yes, a little, girlish giggle. He knew we were going through a hard time, and he was having so much fun showing us how he can take care of us even when things seem most bleak.
What a change in my perspective after that as I watched God do it again and again. A bill collector calls to say we're going to sue you, and I say awesome! They thought I was absolutely crazy, but I knew that meant God was doing something. Within a day or two we'd open the mail or something and there would be the money we needed to pay that bill.
I could go on with story after story of God's goodness to us, but the point of this article is to answer the question of whether there is laughter in heaven. Well, if God is laughing now, I guarantee you there will be laughter and to spare in heaven! Can't you imagine Jesus playing a joke on the angels? Some day there will be no tears, but there will always be laughter.
