Memoirs: Addiction

Addiction is a man's weakness, we all may have one, some addictions fade away and some stay around until we die. What makes addiction take control of life, is it that it fulfill our soul. Addiction is not blind, we all can usually notice when some one has an addiction problem, if it family members, friends or a stranger. In a sinful world of sex, drugs and money, how does one fight addiction. Faith in god and prayer helps, but were human and we all have compulsive needs. Some people wont admit it, because their minds lives in a perfect world.

Memories of the first addiction that I noticed was alcohol and drugs, with my uncle James. His world was about partying and drinking. When I was a small child, he was fun to be around and as I got older he was an asshole. I remember his wife, my aunt Linda was such a wonderful person. She would pick up my brother and I to sleep over her house. My aunt and uncle had four children. We all had a close bond, like we were brothers and sisters. I remember, one time that Ricky, my aunt and uncle younger son, said to me and my older brother that he had a secret to show us. Ricky took us into his father's camping trailer on the side of their house. We went inside the trailer to the back in the sleeping area. Ricky walks slowly to the sleeping mattress. Ricky unzipped the mattress and inside was a small bag of white pills. Ricky softy whispers "It's speed". At that time, me and my brother's mind were virgins to that term and what this small bag of pills could do.

I later notices as child that alcohol and drugs was pretty common among my family and relatives. As time moved on, some relatives die from this addiction. Some are still living with it. I was lucky that I could easily fade away from this addiction, were my brothers could never win this battle. Addiction does not discriminate, for my brothers who had the most loving hearts in the world, but addiction didn't care.
