The worst free agent signings of the 2007 MLB season

Roger Clemens will make nearly one million dollars per start this year. So far he's 1-3 with a 5.32 ERA.

In other words, he's not worth it.

Yes, the New York Yankees have the money to make the signing, but one man is not going to make the difference. Especially one who can only give you about six innings on the mound every fifth day.

Clemens will probably improve as the season goes on, but if they Yankees are going to make the playoffs they need pitchers Ching Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, and Kei Igawa to pitch well along with Clemens.

Even if the "Rocket" were to win the rest of his starts, which is highly unlikely, it wouldn't be enough in itself to make the playoffs.

As of June 30 they are 11 games behind Boston for first place, and eight games behind Detroit for the the Wild Card.

Clemens had his first start delayed because of what was being called a "fatigued groin." That should say it all right there.

For a pro-rated deal of more than 20 million dollars, not even the free-spending Yankees should invest in that much money.

The whole staff, and the offensive guys, must gel together for the Yankees to make the playoffs.

If they don't, Clemens will go down as a very expensive piece of a downright terrible puzzle.
