How to be a good parent

How to be a good parent? Is that the question now? I'll let you in on something, whether you are a single parent or married parent, it isn't easy to know if your style of parenting is the right one. The most important thing is listening to that child and believing them no matter how many times you are told that he/she has done something wrong uless there is considerable proof otherwise. After all, isn't the judicial system in the great nation of our built on innocent till proven guilty?

Maybe your child has a learning dissibility and makes and easy target. Maybe your child is a saint and doesn't do anything wrong. Maybe your child is a parents nightmare and discipline isn't working. No child is perfect, and it isn't always the parents fault, but blame shouldn't lay apon the child alone. Learning to recognise problems in a child and how to help them learn to cope and deal with their differences. It won't make living with normal kids any easier, but it will help them to deal with the real world outside the home and live amongst others not like themselves.

If the child doesn't have a mental problem, learning dissibility, or physical dissibility then it is a good idea to teach them how to live around people with such said handicaps. There are more children born with handicaps than not these days it seems. You can make yourselves aware without making it the problem. Not all children need to be on medication for mental handicaps. I am bipolar and ADHD for example. I never got into trouble in school. I had trouble in school with attention span and retaining what was taught, but as I grew people dismissed it as I wasn't trying hard enough. turns out I learn differently. I don't respond to yelling. I won't even listen to someone yelling. I usually block it out, by plain not listening or leaving the area. Same as I used to do as a kid. The only thing that worked was when someone would sit down discuss things with me. The favorite thing asked was usually what do you think we should do to help you learn or get your homework done. I was a kid. I didn't understand that why I was loosing interest in what people were saying, why certain things seemed harder than others, why other things would seem to go in one ear or out the other. Tthese are things I hear people ask all the time, plus, "How do I get my child's attention?"

Here is a clue, no matter whether they are handicapped or not: that tv or game must be off to talk to them or you might as well talk to the refrigerater or
