The desire for violent sex must originate somewhere. Some people seem to believe that violent porn depicting women enjoying rape or degrades women causes a corrosion of morals and lends to increases in violent sexual behavior. Well, there had to be a demand for violent porn in the first place, or else it would not sell. Why do people make violent porn? Because they know people will buy it, that there is a market. Stopping pornography such as this will not decrease men's desires for violent sex, it will merely limit their access to a safe release of these desires. To stop rape, we as a society need to start valueing people's bodies as sacred property. We need to empower young women, sexually as well, so that when they decide to have sex they will feel safe and supported by their friends and family, and will not become involved in an unsafe sexually violent relationship or feel ashamed if they are sexually assaulted or raped. We, as a society, need to stop judging men by their sexual conquests and women by the sex they have not had. There is nothing wrong or shameful about not being a virgin. Help rape and sexual assault survivors feel safe coming forward.
Porn is not the problem. Self-control and respect for other people's bodies is. There are ways to have safe, consensual sex which allow people to fufill more violent sex fantasies. There is nothing shameful or wrong about S&M. Non-consensual sex, however, is ALWAYS wrong. If we want to stop rape, we need to start talking about sex. How to be safe, how to say no, how to make sure your partner is saying yes, what does it mean to be able to give consent, what is rape, what is sexual assault, and where can you go if you think you are a survivor.
Rape existed long before the mass production and consumption of porn. It will continue to exist without it as well.
