White wall tires, what the heck are those? I'm sure some of you are getting ready to read this and are just wondering what could be so interesting about these tires? Aren't all tires the same?
Well, lets start with a little bit of a history lesson. Most of you probably don't know that some of the first tires were made out of a specific kind of rubber that was naturally white! Fascinating, and now we're all using black tires? What happened? Well, white rubber for some reason doesn't have enough traction which is important for tires. Sooner or later they changed the rubber to the black type.
As time went by they gradually decided that all black tires would be good, they just added white rubber for decorative looks. They usually covered the whole sidewall with white rubber so it was called "white wall tires"
With that out of the way, I'm sure you wanted to know what I was talking about before I explain why they look better. Like I said before, these kinds of tires were used on older models of cars. People that re-build older cars and make them look nice and fancy like to bring back the authentic look. It just looks more natural for the type of car that the tires are put on. (They were popular on cars from the year 61 and before.)
