Where Is That First Drop?

Where is that first drop?
Has it evaporated like an impoverished dream?
Perhaps it's in the minds of churchgoers and mystics
Perhaps it's in men's prayers during a moment of silence
Indeed, it's in the sweat of the brow during an outburst of violence

How far has it traveled?
Through Jesus' cup and Lennon's blood?
Maybe it's trapped in the bark of the Petrified Forest
Maybe it's tanning on the banks of the Dead Sea
Indeed, it's in the carnal satisfaction of two lovers' ecstasy

How will we know?
A prism teasing us with fantastical perceptions?
Perhaps the spectrum lays high in the north
Perhaps the hues merge brilliantly into one
Indeed, the first drop has left trails to the sun
