Obesity in children: Addressing the problem

Kids today are well obese and getting worse as we speak. Todays society is doing nothing about it except say "We have to do something". Thanks to todays modern technology with high-def televisions, and computers, and video games kids don't want to go outside and ride bikes, walk, play kick ball or baseball. They would much rather sit on the couch and play their video games or watch their cartoons for example the fairly odd parents, or Zack and Cody. They also would rather eat fast food and junk because its quick, easy, and tastes much better then broccoli or peas. Kids today don't actually realize that from what they are doing they can die before their parents do. you can tell an a 11 or 12 yr old that "if you don't stop now your going to have a heart attack by the time you hit 20", the kid is just going to blow you off until it actually happens and then its to late. So before something drastic happens we as a society have to do something about. For example give them better eating habits, change the school menus from fries and pizza to fruit and vegetables. The 12 yr old might not like it but its for their own good. Also maybe make less McDonald's and Wendy's or at least put healthier choices on the menus. The healthier kids today are the longer they will live and the more fun they can have in life. here are some ideas to help motivate your family in getting healthier-

1.maybe you should call your cable company and shut off the TV and computer for a certain amount of hrs so you sorta force them to go out and hang wit friends
2. mix vegetables with other health foods so your child wouldn't exactly know that their eating vegetable especially if they don't like vegetables
3. maybe after dinner your child and the rest of the family could go for a walk around the block it gives you and your child more family time and your getting a good workout too
4. try and buy healthy food when you go shopping maybe fruits vegetables and meat try and stay away from soda cookies ice cream and all the other great tasting junk food
5.stick with the health diet it might be hard at first but if your child sees the rest of the family eating health lier and exercising then their bound to do it to
As i was searching the Internet earlier today i came across the new reality show Shaq's Big Challenge. the show is about Shaquille O'Neal, the 7-foot-tall star of the NBA's Miami Heat, and taking charge in the one of the several heath issues this nation is facing which is child obesity. In the show Shaq takes six middle schoolers from Florida and helping them make right choices for their health. Did you know there are to types of obese. there's obese which means over weight and then there's morbidly obese which means past obese and near death. This new reality show premiered on ABC Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 9pm. If you would lie to know more about the show or to see it go to ABC.com or watch it every Tuesday at 9pm on ABC.
