In the beginning, I believe there were more Republicans than Democrats who favored the war. No one but General Patton likes war. We're all tired of the number of senseless killings that flash across our TV screen each evening. Saying that, I believe that most Republicans still favor finishing what was started.

People forget that we didn't instigate this war. Over three thousand innocent Americans died for no other reason than they were Americans.

Throughout our history, our men and women have given their lives so we could continue to enjoy these freedoms and privileges Whenever tragedy hits America, whether a hurricane, earthquake or 911, we all come together. Gone are the political divisions and finger pointing. Our loyalty to our country shines forth.

Why can't it consistently be that way? Think how much we could accomplish if we stood as a united voice. Instead of useless debating whether we should be there or not. It's time to link arms and let the rest of the countries know that we are determined to do what it takes in order to keep our country free and safe.

As of today, 2009, there is still more Republicans than Democrats that favor the war in Iraq. However, saying that, there has been a shift to the left from the Republicans. More and more of both parties want to bring our troops home. Perhaps that is due in part to the success we have accomplished in Iraq.

Along with that, there is the financial burden that the United States has shouldered these past five or six years. War is expensive and we haven't gotten a great deal of help from other countries. Not only that, we are now facing a financial crisis of our own.

I continue to hear debates over the question of whether we should have ever attacked Iraq. Instead, the theory goes, we should have targeted Afghanistan. How can the people who favor this plan know for sure that that would have been the right solution? Do they have a crystal ball?

Our President acted on the information he was given. Information from sources that he trusted. What else could he do? The bottom line is, we were attacked and Americans were killed. We knew that Iraq was involved in terrorism. They, and other countries along with them.

I believe that the Republicans were right in voting to go to war. Now that Iraq is safer, Republicans, like the rest of us are ready to turn it all over to the Iraqi-an government.
