I was on my to work when I met John. He was a nice chap with retrogressive hairstyle. We started talking, which eventually leads us to a topic, which we went on to discuss at length. Well, he has just completed a degree in criminal justice and he was all excited when he started to talk about it. At first it got me a little bored but gradually through the conversation, it got me changed in my perspective towards this degree course altogether.
Consequently, John went on to pursue his career in law enforcement and the course, which he had undertaken, makes him a cut above the rest. Being equipped with profound knowledge in law enforcement. Well, policing has evolved greatly over the years and it is not as simple and straightforward as just patrolling around the streets and arrests a few offenders. Understanding in structured policing and all the know-how based on true case studies as well as some background history arms you really well in handling your job. In most developed countries, policing has focused on various areas like leadership in a challenging environment, managing complexity, personal mastery, community orientated policing and assurance policing which turns out that it is no longer adequate when the dissemination of knowledge and experience is solely conducted via on-the-job training. It is not that it is not viable, but there is more academic understanding to it. It allows you to have more options of positions in law enforcement agencies, which you are able to undertake both more confidently and effectively. John has excelled in his career as a police officer so far which he was rewarded duly. It could be the interest, which spurs him on, but on the other hand, he could not have made it thus far if he was not equipped with such knowledge.
There are few who will actually choose such extremely focused as well as specialised course, because many felt that it is not general enough to select their job. Due to the increasing threat that arises dominantly over the years, security business even in the private sector is increasingly in demand. Entities needs security and business continuity planning in order to ensure that they are operational intact as well as ready for any form of uncertainties. You can be sure that this course will not land you jobless.
It is true that law enforcement agencies do not require such an academic requirement for you to join but it is most certainly helpful if you are or rather inspired to pursue a career that is relevant to criminal justice. It is always prudent "to put the ox in front of the cart" when embarking on almost everything.
