"God believes in you. Why do you not believe in Him?" Okay, first off, God believes in me? What exactly does that mean? If I pretend for a moment that I am a Christian and take the Bible literally, then God created man. Or rather, since I am female, he created me from a man's rib (which frankly I find disturbing). So if God created man, does that mean that he 'believes' in man? When one says they believe in God, they define 'believe' as knowing he is there without any hard proof of existance. So if you use 'believe' in this sense, then why does God 'believe' in us if he created us and therefore knows of our actual existance?
Secondly, you cannot just ask the question of why someone does not believe in God, or numerous gods. I find it much easier to ask why one DOES believe in God. Generally I find this answer to be that they are scard of the afterlife, want to know their purpose, and want someone to turn to for advice and companionship. Are these good reasons to spend years of one's life devoting themselves, reading the Bible (written by men and not God, which is a fact), and spending their money for a manifestation of their wants and fears? I think not. Why people such as I do not believe in a God is simply because we have faced the fact that there are things in the world that cannot, at this present time, be explained. We do not need something to believe in. There is overwhelming proof against many of the claims made in the Bible, making it very hard to believe that it was written by an All-Knowing Being. To put it plainly, I do not believe in Him because I have never felt any real desire to give up my life for something that is undoubedtly fantasy.
