The importance of an alternative to oil

that endeavor. With our lessons toward global warming being realized as a result of the industrial revolution and all its wonders, it is we who must lead the charge into the future. Let us as a society strive not only to confront our errors of naivete but to as well lead those developing nations of the globe towards avoiding the repeating of them needlessly.

Hundreds of years ago the eastern society we called "Moors" helped pull our European ancestors out of "the dark ages", with their concepts of science and technology. Those same people are known as Muslims today. We repaid that gift of wisdom with what are known historically as the "crusades". Let not the legacy of our good fortune be that we used its advantage to enslave others. We cannot be foolhardy and arm those who find excuses to hate any who are different. We can however undermine their ability to find fresh recruits if we teach their people to disarm the very hardships they collectively face. So too if we seek to stem the terrifying tide of nuclear proliferation, is it not also then in our best interest to present for the developing world a dependable and efficient alternative? As it is our science and industrial appetite that has created this nuclear version of Frankenstein's monster so too it falls upon us to subdue the wretched beast.

With the exponential increases in global human population, combined with the advancements in medical science extending average life spans, the human demand on natural resources will, if it has not already done so, exceed the ability of our biosphere to sustain. We have learned to reduce, re-use and recycle in the hopes of averting this trauma. Pompous and full of self-import, we as a species never seem to quite consider that the Earth is quite prepared to carry on without us. And will it not be all the more sorrowful as a tragic comedy, because we have the knowledge and skills to have never have come to this moment of tenuous fragility? The challenge then is to the respective energy and construction industries to develop these technologies with the individual homeowner in mind. To simply concentrate on new developments is far too anemic for this ambition. There must also be a concerted effort to develop affordable ways to modify existing structures toward this ambition.
