The importance of an alternative to oil

are built on specialization. Businesses strive to be the best at one thing. Such single mindedness can be commended when evaluating dedication and quality. That stated such a characteristic is fundamentally sterilizing to the nature of the trading market or societal components. As Kofi Anan expressed at the Nairobi conference held in November of 2006 "it is baffling that readily available, energy-efficient technologies and know-how are not used more often. [] Low emissions need not mean low growth or stifling a country's economic growth." (Daily Mercury. Guelph, Ontario: November 10, 2006. Pg A.13) But this is exactly the type of putrid propaganda some corporate lobbyists are spewing out to government representatives. Technological diversity the surest way to guarantee not only continued economic growth but also an exponentially more secure future for our descendants.

The globalization of markets has a two-fold theory motivating this expansion. The obvious and regularly complained about ramification is that employers have access to cheaper labor markets. It is true that to some degree they have abandoned the very people that have made them successful. Still it must be noted that if these companies do not adapt to this new circumstance, their international competitors will quickly put them out of business. Western civilization has so greatly out paced the rest of the world that our products are regularly too expensive or more often impractical for these other societies. It is in all our best interest to abolish that separation. True corporations will be the first to benefit, but in time our whole society will realize tangible growth and increased stability. There is no painless way to execute this change. Investors will take huge risks that will undoubtedly find some failure rate. Jobs will be lost, and we will be forced to adapt.

North American society loves to boast about its ingenuity and inventiveness. We have led the modern world in many if not most of the technological advancements of the last half-century. This is not to say other groups have not participated in this development or to ignore that others have applied them far more efficiently. When we consider this as one of the proudest components of our heritage then so too it must fall upon us to continue toward
