Poetry: Infinity

We think it's something alien,
something foreign to us all,
the notion of perpetuity,
the never-ending nature of
things which unlike us
do not die, do not cease, do
not decay or otherwise break down.

But infinity is everywhere around
us and even in we ourselves...
whether it is because over and
over each day most of us hammer out
some work or other which echoes
across the infinity of as many
universes as there are, because
anyone in our position would do
the same as we do and many all
over time and space ARE in our position

or maybe it's simply because we
have a basic inner desire to always
survive, to persist, on and on,
we are something spawned in a universe
of mostly nothing, SOMETHING spawned,
and that something has a strong desire to
NOT be nothing, to stick around,
to just go on and on and on,

and why shouldn't we? Why should nothingness
claim some sense of infinity that
somethingness doesn't have? I don't
accept it. To me existence will
persist just as infinitely as
nonexistence does in its own unique way.
