UK: Pound vs. Euro

The strongest argument for keeping the pound lies in the countries who have adopted the euro. Do we really want the British economy to run alongside that of the French, Spanish, Italian and Greek? All they will do is sap the economic strength Britain has built up over the years. Their economies will improve slightly on the back of the UK - and Britain's economic wealth will plummet. I reckon Britain should keep the pound - but if it really insists of ditching its currency, why not apply to the US and see if we can use the dollar instead. Its not too strong at the moment, but long term it's a far better bet than the Euro.
The rules governing membership of the single European currency are quite tight - and have already been broken by Italy that we know about. In Britain, the Government tries its best to stick to its economic forecasts. How could we maintain that without the level playing field the Euro would bring - one rule for reckless Italians, another for prudent Britons? It just wouldn't work. Long live the pound. They've already taken our pounds (weight), killed off feet and inches and want to do the same with miles - keep your hands off the rest of is and stop tinkering with our way of life.
