Wildlife encounters while traveling
Have you ever seen a herd of deer? Have you ever seen a really large herd of deer?
Deer everywhere, as far to the right as you can see, and as far to the left?
Such a sight to see! Driving through a part of the beautiful state of Pennsyvania,
I was delighted to get to view such a sight. I had grown up in Arkansas, and never saw nearly this many deer in one grouping anywhere.
Deer, a large herd, crossing the highway. Bucks, does, fawns, walking and running. Living in the woods of Pennsylvania.
While traveling through a wooded area in northwestern Pennsylvania early on a Sunday morning, my husband and I had been enjoying the scenery for several miles. It almost seemed like we were the only ones out-and-about. Now and then we would encounter another vehicle, but the timing gave us the road almost to ourselves.
We had been talking, memory tends to think most likely about our son, left at home with an aunt and uncle. I realized my husband had slowed the car, and looked up at the highway to discover the reason.
Amazingly, deer were crossing the highway. You might think, well, so what, people see deer crossing the highway possibly daily in some places. Maybe you might see one or two, or sometimes even a family of three or four. From the right side of the highway to the left side of the highway, deer were walking and running to get to the left side of the highway. Far to the left of the highway to the safety of the woods.
As far as you could see there were deer. Apparently, this was a very large herd, right in front of us. Several minutes later, they cleared the road.
There was a car coming from the other direction, and the driver looked as shocked as we were. When all the deer were gone, I realized my camera, full of film, was on the car-seat between us.
