Life is like a bug - It all depends on how you look at it!
We found a bug in our house Saturday morning, after breakfast. It was a large, brown beetle. Minding it's own business, looking altogether benign, it was slowly trodding across the vinyl flooring of our kitchen.
Missy, our youngest, was HORRIFIED! "MOMMY," she screamed, "come kill this bug, it's yucky!"
Joey, 12, came running in, exclaiming: "NO! Don't hurt it! It's neat! Mom, I'll get a jar and put cheesecloth over it with a rubber band. I'll give it food and flies...I'll take care of it, I promise, can I keep it?
My husband, Steve, hearing Missy's screams, rushed in from the garage: "What happened? Is everything alright?" When he saw the cause of the commotion, he laughed aloud! "So that huge monster scared you, Missy?" He gave her a big hug, then went back to the garage.
I had turned around and was headed toward the paper towels, intending to gently pick up the little varmint, and return it to it's proper home - OUTSIDE, in the yard, where it could hopefully rejoin it's little beetle friends. I had never anticipated what happened next.
A four-legged flash of lightning, our dog Sparky, shot through the doorway, spotted the helpless beetle, who had somehow flipped over onto his back, and proceeded to bark furiously at the little insect! Missy started screaming again, joined by Joey, and even I curiously became nervously concerned about the safety of our littlest visitor. Sparky stopped barking, paused for just one second, then GULPED the beetle down, without even chewing!
There was total silence in our kitchen. A dead silence. Perhaps it was shock, or perhaps respect for the little life which had just been ended so quickly. No one said anything, and we all went back to what we had been doing before the beetle came so briefly into our lives.
Yes, life is somewhat like a bug. It is all how you look at it. To one person, life can be frightening, to another curious and exciting, to yet another, perhaps not that entertaining at all. Yet, no matter how we choose to view life, we should all treasure every moment of it because, we do not know when it might end. We should choose to laugh and to love every day!
