Women want the cowboy-but not any cowboy, we want the romance novel cowboy: tall, rugged, oozing raw masculinity. He's all man and he knows it. He's in control of his life and his environment. That's not to say he hasn't suffered setbacks. He has. He does. But he rises above them with innate strength, uncompromising honor and a quiet, manly sense of grace that you simply have to admire.

And although he spends all that time on the range, he knows exactly how to satisfy his woman. She may have to convince him that he wants him in her life-and this is a man who needs to be seduced-once he is, he stays that way. When he has her in his bed, he knows exactly how to make her toes curl. No fumbling or gaffes between the sheets for this hero.

As for how he treats her outside the bedroom, he's a independent spirit, and he expect the same of her. In other words, he respects her, and allows her to be herself. He's an excellent partner in a marriage. Work is something that has to be done-and he pitches in. He's outside a lot-but he'll do his share inside. Or hire someone to see that it gets done.

As for the "fine arts" and "getting in touch with his feminine side" that the metro-sexual man is known for, he is likely to snort at both subjects. But that doesn't mean he is illiterate or that he isn't gentle, kind, and caring.

The real question is, does this cowboy that women want exist?
